Departments

  • Department of Biological Sciences
    The curriculum in Biological Sciences includes undergraduate courses oriented toward majors in biology and related disciplines, pre-professional courses, and courses designed to serve as important elements in the liberal arts education of students with a variety of majors. The B.S. in Biology provides an exceptional foundation for students who plan to enter the workforce as biologists immediately following graduation or to study at the graduate/professional level. The department also offers a very active Master's Degree in Biology program.

  • Department of Chemistry
    The curriculum in Chemistry offers undergraduate programs in Chemistry and Forensic Chemistry and the Masters in Forensic Science. Learning includes hands-on experience with major laboratory instrumentation and opportunities to participate in undergraduate and graduate research. Students are well prepared for graduate and professional school programs or for employment in industry, secondary teaching and forensic laboratories.

  • Department of Computer and Information Sciences
    The curriculum in Computer and Information Sciences offers three undergraduate majors, a master degree, and a doctorate degree. The Department of Computer and Information Sciences is one of the largest departments at Towson University with eighty undergraduate courses, more than forty graduate courses, and serves approximately 1,200 undergraduate and graduate majors. Computer and Information Sciences faculty are committed to excellence in teaching and providing students with professional guidance and advice. We emphasize quality in education which includes solid theoretical foundations and the latest technological developments.

  • Department of Mathematics
    The curriculum in Mathematics offers undergraduate concentrations in Actuarial Science and Risk Management, Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Mathematics Secondary Education; and combined programs with Computer Science and with Economics. The department offers graduate programs leading to a master's degree in Applied and Industrial Mathematics, and Mathematics Education. Mathematics is a vital and exciting discipline with many open questions yet to be explored.

  • Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences
    The curriculum in Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences provides students with a wonderful environment that is ideal for launching their studies of physics, geology, planetary science, astronomy or cosmology. In addition the department is central to Towson's offerings in Science Education. Also offered is a Dual Degree in Engineering Program leading to both a bachelor's degree in Physics from Towson University and a bachelor's degree in Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. On the graduate level is a Professional Science Master's (PSM) degree in Applied Physics.
