Recommended Smartphones

.

OTS recommends and will support devices that operate the Apple iOS and Android operating systems. More important than the specific hardware is the device's synchronization software. For the Apple iOS operating system, Microsoft Exchange in combination with iTunes is preferred for synchronization. Android devices will operate through corporate synchronization setup.

.

All Smartphone purchases must be approved by the Vice President for Administration and Finance.   In addition these devices have a university policy regarding use, see notes below.

  1. Smartphones combine the functionality of a PDA with a cellular phone.
  2. Prior to purchase and to order, contact Nicole Cosentino at 410-704-5013.
  3. Departments should not purchase devices directly.
  4. Synchronizing Smartphones is accomplished using your cellular provider's network.
  5. Verizon Wireless is Towson University's preferred cellular service provider and all  recommended phones operate on Verizon's network. A monthly plan is required.
  6. Depending on your synchronization needs, you may be required to purchase an additional software application and/or licensure.
  7. Purchase of a Smartphone requires the approval of your department head, dean or associate vice president, and divisional vice president. Policy details are available in the Mobile Computing Devices Policy.
  8. When your Smartphone arrives, OTS Telecommunications will arrange for setup and delivery.

.

.

.Recommended Smartphones currently includes various models of the Apple iPhone. Various Android equipment is also available. Please call Nicole Cosentino at 410-704-5013 for the most current equipment offerings, pricing and usage policies.

.For technical assistance concerning all Smartphones,  call the OTS Help Center at 410-704-5151, menu optione 2+2+2 for assistance.
