Staff Leadership Development

Towson University prepares students, faculty and staff to make a difference by cultivating leadership and civic engagement. Staff are encouraged to take advantage of programs and initiatives that advance leadership on campus and in the community.

Annual Staff Development Conference

The Towson University Staff Council (TUSC) hosts the Annual Staff Development Conference in May for all staff.  Seminars cover beneficial topics for both professional and personal development. Besides seminars, the popular Marketplace showcases internal departments and external vendors that provide giveaways and access to information and services. A community outreach project is chosen annually to benefit a local and worthy cause. Staff can conveniently drop off their donations during the conference.

Building Bridges Across Maryland

The Building Bridges Across Maryland program is not only a professional development opportunity, but also a chance to network and share best practices across institutions. There are two cohort programs: one for administrative support staff and one for supervisors. Participants are asked to complete six workshops based on audience needs. Each cohort consists of five staff members from the following institutions: Goucher College, Loyola University in Maryland, Notre Dame of Maryland University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Towson University and the University of Baltimore.

Leadership Certificate

The Leadership Certificate is a non-degree certificate program geared toward those new to or interested in moving into a leadership role. Participants complete four required workshops that ask them to explore their leadership philosophy and style via light lecture, activities, assessments and readings before and during the workshops. Participants are also asked to complete two elective workshops to further explore their growth as leaders. There are also instructor-led and eLearning elective options available.

President's Leadership Institute

The President's Leadership Institute offers intensive, year-long leadership programs for faculty, department chairpersons and administrative staff. The program focuses on interdisciplinary faculty and staff interaction, leadership concepts and experiences, and interaction with leaders on and off campus.
