Towson University has a distinguished history in the preparation of classroom teachers and education specialists. The 2015 -2016 academic year will, in fact, celebrate Towson University's 150th anniversary. In 1866, Towson began as the Maryland Normal School for Teachers and that institutional commitment to the preparation of teachers for schools in Maryland, the mid-Atlantic region and across the nation has continued. The majority of graduates from the College of Education enter America's schools as teachers and specialists. Careers for educators are also available in a variety of non-school settings: government, industry, media production, military, correctional institutions, and other emerging fields.
The College of Education offers programs on both the undergraduate and graduate levels that are designed to meet the challenges of the twenty first century.
