There are several different categories of marshals for each ceremony: Grand, VIP, Lead, Faculty, and Student marshals. They are all selected within the college to serve a special role in the ceremonies.
Name Card Presenters
These individuals are faculty members who assist the readers by handing them the student's name card as they process. This helps to achieve proper pacing and a smooth flow of graduates across the stage.
Faculty are invited to attend the ceremonies to represent the college and show their support for their graduates. They process after the students and just before the President's party and are seated on both sides of the stage during the ceremony.
For ceremonies beginning at 10:00 a.m., please arrive no later than 8:45 a.m. For ceremonies beginning at 3:00 p.m., please arrive no later than 1:45 p.m.
All ceremonies will be held in the SECU Arena.
Limited faculty parking will be in available in Lot 21 (You must display a special Commencement permit to park in Lot 21). Additional faculty/staff parking will be in the Union Garage. Shuttles will be running all day between the Union Garage and the Towson Center/SECU Arena.
Meeting/Robing Room - Towson Center Rm 117
These individuals are responsible for reading the names of the students as they process across the stage. They work in tandem with the name card presenters to ensure proper pacing and flow of graduates.
Commencement is one of the happiest days of the year on our campus and is at the core of what we do as a university community. Every person and department plays some role in this proud moment in the students' lives. As a part of the TU community, you may be asked questions regarding the ceremonies. To assist you in responding to these questions, we have created a Commencement Quick Reference Guide.
Volunteers are staff members who offer their time to assist the other university departments involved in commencement (Events & Conference Services, Parking & Transportation Services, Commencement Committee, etc.) with specific related tasks coordinated through Teresa Hardin and Lauren Averill.
Some of these tasks include, but are not limited to: passing out programs, greeting guests, seating in reserved sections, golf cart duty, etc.
Teresa and Lauren send out an email requesting volunteers well in advance of the ceremonies. If you are interesting in helping, please respond to that email accordingly. Any questions regarding this process can be directed to Lauren Averill (email@example.com).
