Counseling Center

Are you in crisis?

The Counseling Center is available during regular hours to help students with an emergency or crisis. When the Counseling Center is closed, you still have access to emotional help if you need it.

Campus Police

If someone's safety is at risk, or if someone might need emergency medical care, please DIAL 911 contact the Campus Police (410-704-4444) immediately.

Alternatively, you can proceed directly to the nearest hospital emergency room. We have a number of hospitals that are within walking distance of campus, including St. Joeph's Medical Center and Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

The Campus Police are able to reach Counseling Center staff as needed in an emergency, for consultation or other forms of help.

Off-Campus Resources

Sometimes a helpful listening ear is enough to help you get through to the next time the Counseling Center is open. In this case we recommend you call one of the following local resources:

Phone: 410-531-6677

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. 1 800 273 8255

Phone: 800-273-TALK (8255)

  • Turnaround: A private nonprofit organization dedicated to serving victims of rape, child sexual assault, domestic violence, and adult survivors of child sexual abuse.
    Phone: 410-837-8000
  • Violence Hotline Center, Inc.: A service in partnership with Community Crisis Services, Inc. Here is an excerpt from their brochure: "Free hotline, case management and referral services for people struggling with potentially violent feelings and behavior; and for friends or family members who need help in dealing with someone who is angry and hostile."
    Phone: 1-877-ANGER99 or 1-877-264-3799

If you use any of the above services, we urge you to call us at the Counseling Center, 410-704-2512, the next time we are open so that we can follow-up with you and assist you further.

If you are going through a personal crisis that is interfering with your academics, the Counseling Center can help you in several ways. We may be able to help you to feel better, to recover more quickly and return to productive life at the university with fewer problems.
