Freshman baseball player Michael Bronakoski is a beneficiary of the philanthropy of Joseph Rankin, M.D., who left a charitable bequest to establish a scholarship for student athletes in memory of his brothers, both TU Athletic Hall of Fame members, Carroll Stephen ’28 and George Thomas ’35.
Why did you choose to attend Towson University?
Towson University was a great opportunity to further my education at a school that is well known for business, and also provided a chance for me to compete at the collegiate baseball level.
Whom do you admire and find is a source of inspiration to you?
My grandparents adopted me at birth and have raised me my entire life, and are the best thing that has ever happened to me. They show nothing but support for me no matter what I do.
What has been your best moment or greatest achievement at Towson so far?
Being a large contributor on the baseball field as a freshman, and being able to maintain a 3.5+ GPA at the same time
What are your career aspirations?
To stay involved with the game of baseball in some manner. If the chance to play professionally doesn't come about, I would like to use my sport management major to create or become involved in a type of organization that helps younger high school players receive scholarships to play in college.
What does this scholarship mean to you? The support from the Rankin Scholarship serves as both a blessing, and a motivation to continue to give my all in both the classroom and on the field. It is always a great feeling to be recognized for excelling as a student athlete, and being awarded this scholarship provides the extra push to continue my efforts.
The fact that Mr. Rankin created this scholarship many years ago to give back to others shows the true dedication he has to help to preserve and encourage the aspirations created by his brothers. Carroll Stephen and George Thomas were leaders on the field and in the classroom while they were at Towson, and to have my name recognized among their efforts makes me feel proud of what I have been able to accomplish so far.
