Presidential Scholars with Disabilities Scholarship

The Presidential Scholars with Disabilities Scholarship is a merit scholarship open to prospective freshmen and transfer students with a documented disability who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree full time. The applicant must be a new student to Towson University entering in Fall 2015 and a Maryland resident.  A minimum high school or college GPA of 3.0 is required.  This scholarship covers full tuition and fees.

Please contact Patrick Malloy, Learning Disabilities Specialist, Disability Support Services, at (410) 704-5987 or at pmalloy@towson.edu if you have questions.

Instructions to apply for the scholarship:

1.  Complete the "Presidential Scholars with Disabilities" scholarship application in Appendix E.

2.  Write an essay that is approximately two double-spaced pages in length.  Describe your background, personal goals and interests, strengths and weaknesses, and any achievements.  Include your education and/or career goals, identifying any field or course of study that you plan to pursue.  Also, describe your disability and how it impacts you academically, as well as any educational accommodations and compensatory strategies that have helped you succeed.  Additionally, it would be helpful to provide an explanation of how the scholarship will benefit you.

3.  Submit documentation of your disability that is complete and up to date.  The type of documentation needed depends on the nature of your disability.  (Specific "Documentation Guidelines" are provided on the DSS web site in the Student Guide.)

4.  Provide a certified transcript from the school you are currently attending.  Entering freshmen should include their most recent high school transcript; transfer students should include their most recent undergraduate transcript.

5.  Provide proof that you have satisfied Towson University admission requirements for the Fall of 2015.  Applicants should submit a copy of their admission letter from Towson University's Admissions Office.
