Welcome to International Initiatives at Towson University.
This is very exciting time for Towson University as the International Initiatives plans to launch a campaign to engage faculty, staff and students in the implementation of its international strategic plan supporting the goals of Towson 2020 Plan.
We are strongly committed to becoming a premier advocacy and resource center for comprehensive internationalization at the university. International Initiatives facilitates and supports the recruitment, retention and success of international students and visiting scholars. It offers programs to develop globally competent students by providing international experience and learning abroad opportunities. Towson’s students are engaged and will be more exposed to a diverse and robust series of international events to develop a greater understanding of globalization.
International Initiatives is dedicated to cultivate a global learning community and international focus in programs and curricula. We will continue to identify and build partnerships with higher education institutions, governments and organizations abroad. Many new partnerships will be developed in the near future to highlight the access and quality of excellent academic programs and opportunities available at Towson. We advocate and support the involvement of our academic departments in the capacity building project abroad, establishment of new study abroad sites, development of faculty exchange programs and all those endeavors that enhance the university’s visibility and outreach in all regions of the world.
International Initiatives has 3 unique units that significantly contribute to the internationalization’s ventures. International Student and Scholar Services (ISSO) ensures the retention, success and well-being of international students from over 180 countries and visiting scholars. It also offers educational and cultural programs and events for students, faculty and staff. Study Abroad leads learning abroad opportunities and international experience by providing faculty-led or providers’ supported programs in many countries. Students gain knowledge and experience as well as get direct exposure to diverse languages and cultures by studying or conducting research in an international higher education setting, working in a multinational corporation or volunteering for a community organization abroad. International Contract Office manages diverse short-term language and cultural immersion programs, training for teachers and professionals and developing agreements with international partners.
Through our extensive collaboration with faculty and staff in all academic and student affairs units and student organizations, International Initiatives serve as the catalyst for transforming Towson to a global university.
We look forward to working with our partners at the university and abroad.
Dr. Saleha Suleman.,
Assistant Vice President for International Initiatives
