Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is nutrition counseling provided by a registered dietitian. During the initial appointment, you and the registered dietitian will work together to set nutrition goals to improve your health. Follow-up appointments will check on your progress to see if changes are needed in your nutrition goals and treatment plan.
Medical nutrition therapy provided by a registered dietitian includes the following:
Reviews of what you eat and your eating habits
Thorough reviews of your nutritional health
Personalized nutrition treatment plans
Medical nutrition therapy is often covered by a variety of insurance plans. Certain conditions that may be covered by your insurance plan include diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity (as well many others). Check with your insurance plan for specific medical nutrition therapy coverage details. We currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare Part B, and Medicaid.
Determining Your Calorie Needs/Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
Your resting metabolic rate or RMR is the amount of calories you need just to live, breathe and to maintain the function of your vital organs. It is measured at rest using a metabolic cart. The cart measures your oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production to determine your RMR.
We Can Measure RMR for You
The RMR is a useful tool especially when you are having a hard time losing weight. We can more accurately determine how many calories you need per day to help you lose weight. Contact the Wellness Center at firstname.lastname@example.org for an appointment.
