Glen Arboretum

The Bridge above the Glen Arboretum

The Glen Arboretum is a treasured campus and community resource located adjacent to Smith and Van Bokkelen Halls. For decades the 12 acres of woods that make up the Glen have been used by students and faculty as a place of quiet repose and scientific exploration. Our mission today is to:

  • Establish and maintain specimens of plants, principally trees and shrubs, that are native to Maryland
  • Provide an educational experience for the university community and community at large that is both scientifically accurate yet accessible to lay persons
  • Serve as an outreach and community engagement tool of the university

The Glen Arboretum is a valuable resource for ongoing research in biology and chemistry, and a central location for the experiential learning-based program, the Towson University Challenge Course. Future plans for the Glen involve development of new signage, more accessible foot paths and restoration of the picnic areas.

Giving to the Glen Arboretum

Your donations can help support the research and restoration efforts that take place every year within the Glen Arboretum. If you want to support the Glen Arboretum there are two funds to which you can donate:

  • The Glen Arboretum Operating Fund: This fund provides immediate resources for the maintenance, research and restoration efforts occurring within the Glen Arboretum right now. Choose this fund if you want to make an immediate impact.
  • The Glen Arboretum Endowment: The Glen Arboretum Endowment is used to provide long term care — tree plantings, protection from invasive species and restoration of the pathways — that help keep the Glen Arboretum accessible to everyone. Choose this fund to provide on-going, long term support.
