Towson University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics reinforces leadership principles through programming and provides leadership opportunities on and off the field for student-athletes, coaches and staff.
Each university team and the cheerleading program selects representatives to serve on the Student-Athlete Advisory
Council (SAAC) to promote smooth communication between student-athletes and athletics administration, consistent support and interaction between all student-athletes, student-athlete growth academically and socially, and increased positivity on and off campus through service and outreach. The monthly meetings are open to all student-athletes.
Towson’s student-athletes take part in numerous community service, outreach and philanthropic activities throughout the school year, including organizing drives for blood donation (CAA Have a Heart Blood Drive); participating in charity runs and fundraisers, and volunteering at local schools, hospitals and community groups. The department completed more than 10,000 hours of community service in 2012-13.
The Total Tiger
The Total Tiger programs offer a variety of programming and guest speakers to support student-athletes’ development, enhance their university experience, and prepare them for life after graduation.
