Healthy Campus Taskforce

The Healthy Campus Task Force is a group that was established in 2004 to identify the major health issues faced by Towson University students, faculty, and staff and to recommend ways to further enhance the health and well-being of the University community. The Task Force was charged with identifying programs and services that the campus community is already doing to support healthy behaviors and to enhance student, faculty and staff well-being. Members were appointed to the Task Force by the Vice President of Student Affairs and were selected to broadly represent the whole campus community, particularly those departments engaged in providing health or wellness services, education and programs to students, faculty and staff. Task Force membership currently includes the following departments:

The philosophy of a healthy campus: the Task Force believes that a healthy campus community is one that values and supports the well-being of its members in the broadest sense (i.e., physical, emotional, relational and spiritual well-being).

The Task Force published its initial findings in a 2005 report and has conducted several health needs assessments of both students as well as faculty/staff since its inception, including the biannual NCHA (National College Health Assessment Survey of the American College Health Association). It has also sponsored Student Health 101, an e-newsletter on relevant health and wellness topics for our students and Wellnotes, an e-newsletter directed to faculty and staff. The Task Force has co-sponsored many health-related activities on campus including the Smoke-Free Campus, alcohol programming, and a variety of other health and wellness services.
