Students majoring in music education are required to complete the Music Education Professional Core Courses and the Core Curriculum. Students choose either the instrumental music education concentration or the vocal-general music education concentration. Successful completion of the program certifies students to teach music at the P-12 level in MarylandPublic Schools and other states with reciprocal agreements. Certification requires successful completion of courses and requirements in the music education degree program, admission to the Music Education Program (carried out through the Music Education Program Interview, during Conducting class spring of Junior year), passing the Piano Proficiency Examination, passing the Praxis Core tests and Praxis Subject Assessments for music, completing a notarized Criminal History Disclosure Statement, and completing a full State and Federal Criminal Background Check.
