Associate-to-Bachelor's (ATB) Nursing Dual Enrollment

Current data indicate that only a small proportion of associate degree nurses continue their education and earn a baccalaureate degree. The admission option was designed as a way to help meet the Institute of Medicine’s recommendation to increase the number of baccalaureate-prepared nurses from 50% to 80% by 2020. This is one way Towson University, Department of Nursing is helping new nurses seamlessly transition from associate-to-baccalaureate education.

The Associate-to-Bachelor Admission Option is a collaborative initiative between Maryland Community Colleges and Towson University Department of Nursing. Our current partners are the Community College of Baltimore County (Essex and Catonsville campuses) and Hagerstown Community College. This accelerated year-round option allows students dual enrollment in both the associate degree nursing program at the respective community college and the baccalaureate degree nursing program at Towson University. Successful students will earn both degrees in approximately 2.5 years of year round enrollment. This option is open to anyone who meets the minimum requirements and does not currently possess a RN license.

Eligible students are recruited from those already accepted to the respective community college nursing program. Students can only be accepted into this option prior to beginning the first semester of their associate degree nursing program. Information sessions are scheduled during the fall and spring semesters at Hagerstown Community College and the Community College of Baltimore County (Catonsville and Essex).
