Congratulations on your admission to Towson! We believe the more that you learn about our community, the more you will realize how much we have to offer.
In the sections below, we will post information about your transition to Towson as the topics become most relevant based on the timing of the academic year. Be sure to check back often. In the meantime, please be sure to use the online Freshman To-Do List to stay on top of the required tasks that will assist you in having a smooth transition to Towson.
We look forward to welcoming and integrating you as a part of our Towson community in the upcoming months. Go Tigers!
The University recognizes that one of students’ top concerns when making the transition to college is meeting other students so we created fun pre-orientation events. These events are not required and operate on a first-come-first serve basis. We are confident that you will find an activity below that best suits you! More information about each program will be posted in upcoming months. Click on the logos below for more information on each pre-orientation program.

and develop a personalized transition plan.

Monday, August 19 - Friday, August 23
Project Marj is Towson University's Pre-Orientation Wilderness Experience that has been operating since 1977 and is an experiential orientation course designed for incoming Towson University freshman and transfer students. The program is modeled after Outward Bound, which works to develop group efficiency, ingenuity, leadership, and self-knowledge.
The challenging adventure activities encourage participants to disregard self-imposed limitations on the mind and body and promote the growth of self-worth and esteem. It’s challenging in many ways, but with a focus on communication and responsible risk-taking, it concentrates on safety and is within the physical capabilities of the average healthy person. Students have the option to participate in either a five day Backpacking or Multi-activity (White water kayaking and rock climbing) trip.
Wednesday, August 21 - Friday, August 23
Project Serve is an optional community service experience for freshmen and transferring students. Participants will spend two days volunteering in Baltimore City & County before orientation begins.
Past Project Serve experiences have included:
Sorting donations at the Maryland Food Bank
Preparing meals at the Helping Up Mission
In addition to community service activities, there will be several teambuilding exercises, social activities, and a celebration dinner. All activities are led by trained student leaders who have previously participated in Project Serve.
Welcome to Towson Orientation - Saturday, Aug. 24-Tuesday, Aug. 27 (required)
Welcome to Towson is the university’s four day orientation and welcome program. All new freshman students are required to attend Welcome to Towson events. More information about the program will be posted in upcoming months.
