Presidential Scholar

Dr. Nancy Grasmick, former superintendent of Maryland State Schools, is Towson University's first Presidential Scholar for Innovation in Teacher and Leader Preparation.

An alumna of Towson, Dr. Grasmick is tasked with collaborating with the seven colleges across campus to transform the university’s teacher preparation program into a national model—one that produces effective educators with the knowledge and commitment to prepare students for success. Thanks to her steadfast efforts, Towson has already implemented a number of pioneering programs that put the university and its students in position to lead the nation.

The Signature Forums Series brings national experts face-to-face with community and educator stakeholders to promote discourse on key topics like neuroscience of the brain, school safety and early childhood education.

Towson University will be first in the nation to certify pre-service students to teach Advanced Placement courses in STEM fields. As part of this initiative, TU also offers AP prep courses on campus for challenged high school students and provides intensive AP training to area calculus teachers.

You Can Help

It is a national priority to elevate teacher preparation programs and develop the next generation of STEM educators who will inspire young students to master science, technology, engineering and math. Towson University is at the forefront of the effort, expanding on its long legacy of producing teachers for Maryland and the region.

Philanthropic support is vital to the work that Dr. Grasmick is leading at Towson University. Funding innovative programs requires investment from numerous sources. Already, much of the work accomplished by Dr. Grasmick and her team has been made possible by private donations from alumni, friends and education advocates who believe in Towson’s unique role in a vision to vastly improve our nation’s education systems.

Your support can ensure that Towson University best prepares students for the difficult, yet immensely vital role of educating future generations of children and preparing them to be leaders for tomorrow. Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the Towson University Foundation in support of Innovation in Teacher and Leader Preparation today.
