The Inter-Institutional Registration Program at Towson University is designed to foster an interchange of students between Towson and other University System of Maryland (USM) institutions with the exception of UMUC. Interested TU students should contact the TU IIR coordinator in the Office of the Registrar at 410-704-2007.
FOR WHICH TERMS IS IIR AVAILABLE?
IIR is only available during the spring and fall terms. Towson does not participate in IIR for summer or minimester. Students wishing to take courses at other USM schools during the summer or minimester should follow the regular transfer of credit process.
Both graduate and undergraduate students can participate in the program if certain requirements are met. Enrollment is on a space-available basis. Students must obtain special permits or instructor consent to register for courses that require them at the host institution. Students participating in these programs must follow the drop/withdrawal deadlines at the host institution.
Full-time degree seeking candidates, with at least sophomore status, in good academic standing, must maintain a combined full load (12 or more units) with a minimum of 6 units at TU. With the approval of the IIR coordinator at Towson, students may register for one or two courses at the host institution.
Degree seeking students, in good academic standing can participate. In addition to the IIR form, graduate students must also submit the Graduate IIR Addendum for each course taken.
WHICH SCHOOL DO I PAY?
Students will pay tuition and fees for course to TU (home institution) unless otherwise indicated. Fees at the host institution associated with special courses may be assessed.
All forms for TU students must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar, Enrollment Services, Room 221 or faxed to 410-704-6358. Please make sure all information is complete and clear or the form will be returned to you. Forms submitted without the signature of the department chair (undergraduates) or program director (graduates) will not be processed. The TU IIR coordinator will submit the request to the host institution.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM REGISTERED AT THE HOST INSTITUTION?
You will receive an email notification from the host institution or the TU IIR coordinator.
HOW DOES THE IIR REGISTRATION APPEAR ON MY TOWSON RECORD?
When your registration is processed, you will be placed in a generic, placeholder course here at Towson for the semester in which you are taking the course showing as IIR 100, 300, 500, 600, etc depending on the level of the course you are taking at the host institution.
HOW DO I DROP OR WITHDRAW FROM AN IIR COURSE?
Any changes to your IIR registration must be requested through the TU IIR coordinator within the academic calendar deadlines of the host college.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I COMPLETE THE COURSE AT THE HOST INSTITUTION?
At the end of the term, the host institution's registrar will send an official transcript to Towson and the course grade(s) earned will be posted to the Towson record and calculated into the Towson cumulative grade point average. Additionally, a notation will be made that the coursework was completed through the program, indicating the name of the host institution. Please allow 3-4 weeks from the end of the term for grades to be posted.
Please note that if a student has financial obligations at the host institution stemming from another charge, their transcript may be withheld. If the grade for the course is not sent to Towson the course will be graded with an Incomplete. Any Incomplete grades remaining after 180 will lapse to an F.
